A new Government scheme could see vehicles which contaminate more having to display a red sticker which will prohibit their free movement in certain towns and cities. This will be the case of cars made before 1992, whereas the green ‘go anywhere’ stickers will be reserved for electric cars, as well as hybrids. Although the plan will be introduced shortly, it will not become fully effective until 2013 and will allow cities to create ‘Urban Zones with Protected Atmospheres’.

According to this article, the scheme is a national one and not just Balearic. The article hints that even motorbikes should be banned from the centre of Barcelona! Right......Spain is in a serious crisis, the Euro is doomed to failure, unemployment is rising, foreign holidays are on the decline and the government of Spain has a utopia in mind.
The article below states there will be five stickers for vehicles to be used to show how polluting they are and that the pollution controlled areas will be expanded or restricted in phases. It also suggests all diesel vehicles will be banned, which I'm sure all retailers with delivery vans in central locations will be pleased to here....not!
