The Cretu house, which was recently demolished, is going to cost the tax payers of Ibiza in excess of 20m Euros. The house was built ilegally without the proper licences but the former owner is claiming 20m Euros in compensation, which he appears to be entitled to.
On top of that claim, there will be a clear up cost to remove all the rubble.
Why on earth did the government not just buy the house off the owner at less than market price (therefore punishing the owner for breaking the law) and make use of it in a public way? Maybe it could have been turned into a museum or summer camp for kids. A public owner hotel generating money for the island?
If the environment was the key issue, how can they justify the waste of valuable materials and the premature dumping of it?
